CIXIAN, established in Shenzhen in August 2024, is a coffee brand inspired by the timeless aesthetics of Eastern landscapes. Its name is drawn from a line by the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei, which captures the longing for a peaceful, idyllic life. The brand’s vision is to offer every guest a moment of inner tranquility and relaxation. This project aspires to craft a community space that transcends the ordinary, rekindling the connection between people and the community. Through the lens of contemporary Eastern aesthetics, the design fosters serenity amidst the chaos, creating an environment where simplicity and understated beauty can flourish. Here, hidden poetry naturally inhabits the space, inviting life to unfold with boundless imagination. The entrance, recessed from the street, opens into an expansive resting area, blending private and public environments in harmony. Lush greenery surrounds the entrance, evoking the serenity of forests, subtly veiling the café within. Outside, the city pulses with energy; inside, an oasis of calm and elegance unfolds. A serene retreat from the urban noise, this space invites guests to leave the bustle behind and return to purity. Drawing from traditional garden design, the space is carefully crafted to offer a dynamic, rich experience within a confined setting. Engineered bamboo veneers dominate the interior, chosen not only for their aesthetic warmth but also for their symbolic resonance in Chinese culture. The authentic textures of bamboo bring warmth and simplicity, while accents of jade and black stone create striking contrasts, adding depth and dimension. These materials echo the timeless beauty of mountain landscapes and bamboo forests, bringing nature’s poetry indoors. The design embraces a double-height space to add a mezzanine, accessed via a staircase clad in engineered bamboo. Its entryway unfolds with a landscape of raw stones, a flowing water feature, and a canopy of branches overhead, evoking the peaceful imagery of high mountains, murmuring rivers, and quiet valleys. This thoughtful, flexible spatial arrangement enhances the space's versatility. The mezzanine is more than just a place to enjoy coffee—it also transforms into an art gallery. Exhibits rest silently, enhanced by light filtering through the translucent window. This interplay of stillness and movement, permanence and change, light and shade deepens the connection between people, art, and space, igniting new inspirations and interactions.
