After finished the Qingli South Hotel, our studio starts the second phase design work. One year after completion of first phase, there are changes at the island: tourists are increasing and public facilities are improving. There are more and more design hotels at the emerging market, how to balance between experimental and contextual is the greatest challenge. Most of hotel are renovated architecture, it has to overcome the issues of poor craftsmanship and bad planning of existing building. The second hotel name is Qingli Fuxiao, Fuxiao in chinese means dawn or sunrise. The name comes from project location where people can watch the sunrise. The project is located at Xia Keng Village. This village is having few inhabitants and hotels, and with long coastal line. In between the beach and village, there is rich vegetation which makes the scenery unique. The original site consists of one four-storey building and single storey building. Two buildings are arranged to semi-enclose a courtyard at the site. The main entry is located at the south east corner. Main building is 11.8m x 14.5m and second building is 6m x 12m. Before the renovation, the complex itself was also small hotel. The clients wish us to redesign the layout of the building, to simplify the elevations and create a enjoyable garden. These simple requirements have to work with local regulations and also limited budget. In the plan of original building, rooms are equally distributed. With the seaview consideration, we have resize some rooms for better cross ventilations and scenery. The ground floor is reception and leisure area where we have sliding doors to connect the garden. The garden is 1 m higher than the public road adjacent to the site. The canteen is located next to main building and also with opening facing the landscape. The rooftop of canteen is overseeing the sea at far end. The swimming pool is cladded with green mosaics tiles. The exterior facade is painted in green which is easy repair and long lasting material. Ground level exterior also cladded with wood planks. The natural green building is like an oasis in the middle of the sand beach, witnessing the changes of the sea coast. Each floor we have a different color terrazzo floor to enhance the identity of rooms Fu xiao means sunrise and beginning of a new day. We wish the guests may enjoy the slow life at the Island.
