Matte Teabar Flagship

Matte Teabar’s flagship finds its home in a century-old French villa, tucked away in an alley within a residential neighborhood. To blend into the quiet life of the residential, a small swinging cat signage, adding one more to the 20 cats in the neighborhood, welcomes visitors with a humble gesture in to our teahouse. The outdoor space takes advantage of the beautiful garden, maximizing outdoor seating with low stools and flexible arrangements, a nod to the signature Vietnamese coffee culture. Given the beautiful a-century-old brick walls and roof structure of the house, our approach was to insert monumental blocks of the bar and wall that is distinct from the existing architecture. Using contrast to bring out both the weathered textures of the house, while also highlighting the brand presence in the space. In the annex, a dedicated tea room reflects Matte’s expertise in ceremonial tea. This intimate, calming space hosts tea-making workshops under the glow of Matte’s signature chasen light.
